Rangers face competition from Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven in the race to sign Vitesse Arnhem star Danilho Doekhi. But a report from ED claims PSV are waiting until the summer to sign the powerhouse defender.
Doekhi, 23, has been excellent for Vitesse ever since joining the Eredivisie side in the summer of 2018 from Ajax. Clocking up 116 games in all competitions for Vitesse, Doekhi has become Vitesse’s club captain.
However, he is out of contract in the summer – and available on a pre-contract basis to non-Dutch clubs. But PSV can sign him right now for a bargain £2million fee, with the Record reporting his January price tag.
But a new claim from ED states that PSV will wait until the summer to get him for nothing – and that hands Rangers a chance to sign Doekhi now. That is, of course, if they are willing to pay the required £2million fee.
£2m Doekhi boost: Rangers have got to take January action as PSV wait
Firstly, Rangers desperately need central defenders. Filip Helander has been injured for some time, while Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun are out of contract in the summer. Calvin Bassey is impressing, but a left-back.
So, Rangers need options at centre-back and while Niko Katic returns in the summer – he is hardly the answer. At £2million, Rangers really need to bring him in and take advantage of PSV dallying over a move for Doekhi.
The Gers do have the money, receiving an initial £12million from Everton for Nathan Patterson. While some of that cash will have towards balancing the books, some needs to be re-inserted into the squad and Doekhi is ideal.
