Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers hired the 38-year-old on a four-year deal.

Jamie Murphy has admitted to Rangers TV that he was pleasantly surprised by the club’s appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager.
Rangers hired the Liverpool icon on a four-year contract last month.
Considering the 38-year-old had never managed a senior team before, the appointment raised eyebrows in British football.

It is undoubtedly a big gamble by the Gers but although Murphy expressed his disbelief over the signing, the winger, a £1.4 million addition this summer [Daily Record], is already loving life under the legendary midfielder.

“I didn’t believe it as first! It’s his first job in management, but he has been a magnificent player for years and years and done things at the top level,” he told Rangers TV.
“We are all here to learn from him and the coaching staff as well. He has a great bunch of staff behind him and we are all learning from all of them.”
It’ll be fascinating to see if Gerrard succeeds at Ibrox, though that involves the unenviable task of ending Celtic’s stronghold in Scottish football.
Under Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops have swept all before them in the Premiership, winning back-to-back domestic trebles to become the first Scottish team to ever achieve the feat.
It will take something very special from the new Rangers manager to prevent the Northern Irishman from leading their Old Firm rivals to the much sought-after 10-in-a-row, but if Gerrard is even half as influential from the dugout as he was on the field then he has more than a fighting chance.
