Rangers want James Wilson and have already been given permission by Hearts to discuss a potential move to Glasgow in 2023.

The Gers need major first-team additions moving forward with Ross Wilson under enormous pressure of late.

Rangers are though placing a keen focus on signing young players for their developmental ranks.

Lancelot Polland and Bailey Rice spring to mind having arrived from Scottish clubs whilst Zak Lovelace – snapped up from Millwall – looks to be hugely exciting.

Rangers want James Wilson

The Daily Record now report that Rangers have focused their attention on Hearts teenager James Wilson.

It’s claimed that Rangers have now written to Hearts to tell them of their intent to open talks with Wilson.

Hearts have given Rangers permission to speak to Wilson and the Gers are now hoping to finalise a deal.

Hearts are though still trying to convince Wilson to stay at Tynecastle with a real tug of war emerging both in Scotland and south of the border.

It’s understood that Premier League clubs are also keen on signing Wilson but it’s Rangers who have made the first move.

Wilson was named as the Hearts Academy Player of the Season back in May having dazzled for the Jambos.

Wilson had been featuring prominently under Hearts youth coach Steven Naismith, ironically a former Rangers player.

The teenager was also praised for a strong cameo against Rangers in the Scottish Youth Cup final, which may well have sparked Rangers’ interest.

Primarily a striker, the 15-year-old qualifies to play for Scotland or Northern Ireland at international level and it currently looks like Scotland are the favourites for him.

Wilson will now shelve talk about his international future to sort out his domestic situation, and Rangers will hope to have the young attacker snapped up very soon.
