Rangers skipper James Tavernier wants to avoid a repeat the disappointing League Cup elimination by St. Mirren back in December when the Light Blues face St. Johnstone in the Scottish Cup this weekend – and the Gers captain believes the win over Celtic in the last round shows how much “hunger and desire” there is within the Ibrox dressing room to go all the way and complete a domestic double.
Rangers host St Johnstone at Ibrox on Sunday looking to book a place in the semi-finals of the competition and take a big step towards a second piece of silverware to add to the Scottish Premiership triumph.
With Rangers aiming to win a double for the first time since 2009, Tavernier is focused on the job at hand when Callum Davidson’s side visit Ibrox as the 17-goal full-back looks to continue his return from injury.
Tavernier also knows there is plenty of pressure on Steven Gerrard’s men to get past St. Johnstone but the defender is desperate to push on and join the list of double-winning Rangers captains.
“We were disappointed when we were knocked out earlier this season in the League Cup and that’s something we don’t want to repeat in this cup,” Tavernier told Rangers TV.
“We want to try and go all the way. We showed with a great performance against Celtic how much hunger and desire there is to go all the way and win this Cup.
“Nothing changes, we are Rangers Football Club and we always want to win trophies.”
