Rangers captain James Tavernier has praised young Ibrox full-back Nathan Patterson after a string of impressive appearances in the skipper’s absence through injury, and thinks the teen can “go all the way.”

Patterson had been in the side with Tavernier sidelined, winning rave reviews from fans and pundits alike, with Tav calling the Scotland under-21 international a “credit to himself.”

While Patterson will have to sit on the sidelines in the coming weeks as the result of a ban, Tavernier has been “proud” of the progress he’s been making as he puts Tav’s own place in the side under threat in the long-term.

“Nathan’s been a credit to himself,” Tavernier told Rangers TV. “He’s been working extremely hard.

“I’ve been very proud to see the progress he’s been developing with this season. I’ve already said he can go all the way.

“But going forward, that’s obviously the gaffer’s decision if he wants to include us both but I’ll definitely be available to play up front.”

Tavernier returned to the side for the midweek draw with St. Johnstone and will be aiming to go one better when the sides meet again this weekend in the Scottish Cup.
