Rangers striker Cedric Itten has admitted that it “wasn’t easy” to try and push his way into the side at Ibrox but insists he learned a lot in his time in Glasgow before heading on loan to German side Greuther Fürth.

Itten was one of two deadline day departures from Ibrox as Rangers boss Steven Gerrard trimmed his squad a little and the Swiss international wishes he could have seen more action for the Light Blues.

The striker thinks he benefitted from his spell in Scotland and praised Gers boss Steven Gerrard, calling him “very equipped tactically” as he reflected on his time at Rangers.

“I wish I could have played more there but we had a big squad that was largely together for 3 years without notable departures, Itten told Kicker (via Derek Rae). “It wasn’t easy to play yourself into the side.

I benefitted from being in a new country & from a different type of football. Steven Gerrard is definitely a big personality, very well equipped tactically & I was able to learn a lot.”

The German side have an option to make Itten’s move permanent in the summer and it seems likely that Itten won’t return to Rangers at the end of his loan.

His arrival never really made much sense, signing at the same time as Kemar Roofe, and Itten was always going to find it hard to get past Roofe, Alfredo Morelos and even Jermain Defoe in pecking order.

Despite his move not really working out, there were some real positives shown by Itten at Rangers and some of his goals played a big part in helping the Gers secure the title last season.
