Rangers icon Ally McCoist would start Ibrox defender Nathan Patterson’s in Friday’s crunch Euro 2020 clash with England at Wembley, hailing the Gers teen as “fearless.”
First-choice right-back Stephen O’Donnell had a disastrous outing against the Czech Republic in their first game of the tournament, strengthening calls from fans to throw Patterson into the meeting with the Auld Enemy.
After watching the opening 2-0 defeat at Hampden, McCoist would ring the changes at Wembley, with Patterson coming into the side for his first competitive appearance for Scotland – as well as the honour of being the youngest player to play for Scotland at a major tournament.
“I would make changes to the Scotland team for England,” McCoist said in The Telegraph.
“Nathan Patterson could come in on the right side because he is another one who is young, fearless and athletic so can get up and down the park.
“With Andy Robertson on one side, I’d play Patterson on the other to combat pace.”
Patterson has shown for Rangers he can shine at Euro 2020

Despite his limited appearances at club level, Patterson has shone when given the chance for Rangers – as well as impressing on his debut for Scotland.
With O’Donnell looking like he’d only just discovered the game of football during the defeat by the Czech’s Clarke giving Patterson an opportunity would make sense.
After the defeat at Hampden left Scotland facing a massive climb to remain in Euro 2020, the time for Clarke to play it safe is long gone.
