Former Rangers striker Boyd has delved into punditry, despite still playing for Kilmarnock.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has told Sky Sports that Celtic could land as much as £15million for striker Moussa Dembele, with the club spending £9million on Odsonne Edouard.

The Hoops confirmed the permanent signing of French youngster Edouard last week, joining from French giants Paris Saint-Germain after an excellent loan spell under Brendan Rodgers last season.

It leaves Rodgers with three strikers – Dembele, Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, with all three fighting for one spot in the starting eleven. It could see either Griffiths or Dembele decide to leave.

France Under-21 international Dembele has been linked with a move away from the club ever since scoring 32 goals during the 2016-17 season, and was linked with moves as high as £40million. But Boyd reckons his value has decreased.

“I think he [Dembele] will go eventually but he’ll only go when Celtic are happy to sell. If they get Edouard in then that makes it easier to cash in on someone like Dembele – who they brought in for £500,000 and they could get £15m for him,” Boyd said.

“It leaves Edouard as a guy who will play some of the games. If Celtic have a big European game or a game against Rangers they will turn to their top players. If you are spending around nine million on a striker he is your go-to guy, no question about that.”

Edouard managed 11 goals in 29 league and cup outings for the Hoops last season, though many of those appearances were from the bench. His highlights include scoring the winner against Rangers in a 3-2 win.

Dembele, who joined the club from newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham in the summer of 2016, has two years remaining on a contract worth £25,000 a week (Daily Star).
