Robbie Keane has retired from professional football, played for Celtic in 2010.
Robbie Keane has confirmed his retirement from professional football and Rangers coach and ex-Ibrox midfielder Kevin Thomson has described the former Celtic striker as a “major talent”.
A Tottenham Hotspur legend, Keane turned out for Celtic during a loan spell in 2010, scoring 16 goals in 19 games for the Hoops after joining the club on a temporary basis from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 38-year-old played in two Old Firm derbies in that time, losing 1-0 to Rangers at Ibrox and helping Celtic the get revenge with a 2-1 win at Parkhead – both times facing Thomson.
Thomson, who is currently a youth coach at Rangers, heaped praise on Keane but responded to GIF of himself brutally tackling Keane during one of those Old Firm derby clashes, he Tweeted: “That day, there was only one boss.”
Keane enjoyed an illustrious career that saw him turn out for the likes of Inter Milan, Leeds United, Spurs, Aston Villa, Coventry City, Wolves, Liverpool and West Ham, before moving across the pond to join LA Galaxy.
He scored 104 goals in 165 appearances for the MLS giants, before a short stint at Indian Super League side ATK. He also holds the record as Ireland’s most-capped player, with 146 outings.
