Scott Brown has criticised the Scottish FA for trying to hamper Celtic’s treble chances.
Rangers icon Alex Rae has slammed Celtic captain Scott Brown on Twitter after the Hoops midfielder criticised the Scottish FA for not watering the pitch at half-time during their Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell.
Celtic achieved a second successive treble with a 2-0 win over Stephen Robinson’s side, thanks to goals from Olivier Ntcham and Callum McGregor.
But Brown was not impressed following the win, accusing the Scottish FA of deliberately failing to water the pitch during the half-time interval in an attempt to stop Celtic from expressing their passing-style of football.
Brown was quoted by The Times as saying: “They didn’t water the pitch at half time to try and stop us playing, but it didn’t stop us, we still tried to play our game.”
Rae reacted to Brown’s comments, questioning the audacity of Brown to make such an accusation against the SFA.
Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football continued during the 2017-18 campaign, as they finished 12 points above Old Firm rivals Rangers to hold aloft another Scottish Premiership title – making it seven in a row.
However, the Hoops will be looking over their shoulder ahead of the 2018-19 season, after the Gers appointed former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to the managerial post, replacing Graeme Murty.
