Rangers are reportedly in talks to lure Joe Aribo to Ibrox.
Rangers are looking to tie up a deal for Joe Aribo, and they’ve been battling Old Firm rivals Celtic for the signature of the Charlton Athletic starlet.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that whilst Celtic have shown a real interest in the midfielder, Aribo is giving real consideration to joining Rangers, believing that he’d play consistent first-team football at Ibrox.
Aribo, 22, is expected to make a decision this week. After hitting 10 goals and five assists for Charlton in their promotion campaign, he was bound to attract major interest, and that has proven to be the case with his contract expiring.
Rangers will be hoping to win the race and give Steven Gerrard an exciting midfield prospect to add to his side, and their hopes may have just been boosted by bitter rivals Celtic.
The Bhoys agreed a £3million deal to sign Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull on Wednesday evening, and Sky Sports even add that Celtic have approached Bolton Wanderers about signing Luca Connell too.
Those are two teenage midfielders, and it seems hugely unlikely that they’ll add another young midfielder into the mix in Aribo, especially as Neil Lennon already has Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie at his disposal.
Celtic appear to be backing away from the Aribo race, subsequently boosting Rangers’ hopes of a deal – and we may well see Aribo take on Turnbull next season, with fans no doubt set to compare their futures if they sign for the respective Old Firm giants.
