Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers have struggled for goals this season.

Barcelona Bear Colin Stein has suggested that Michael O’Halloran should be used more often by Rangers boss Mark Warburton, before insisting that he is still unsure about summer signing Joe Garner, the Evening Times reports.

The Gers have made a disappointing start to the new Scottish Premiership season, and it appears that the main reason for their struggles is their inability to find the back of the net with regularity.

Only two teams have scored on fewer occasions than the Light Blues this term, but Stein believes adding more width by using O’Halloran could be the solution, before commenting on the attacking options that Warburton has predominantly turned to in recent weeks.

“Maybe we should play with more width in the team rather than trying to play through the middle all the time,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“They have got players that can add pace in the wide areas, but the likes of Michael O’Halloran don’t get a start.

“I don’t think Martyn Waghorn is a natural striker but his first reaction is to come in if he is playing on the right. He can score goals, though.

“I have only seen Joe Garner a couple of times but the jury is still out on him.”

Since his arrival during the last January window, O’Halloran has really struggled to make a major impact at Ibrox. The 25-year-old has made just 17 league appearances in that time, and has started on just nine occasions.

But given Waghorn’s form in the second tier last season, as well as the money that was spent on bringing Garner to the club in the summer – £1.5m (via talkSPORT) – it seems possible that O’Halloran faces a tough task forcing his way up the pecking order.

However, Garner will surely be feeling that the patience being shown while he finds his feet will soon disappear if he is unable to add to his one goal for the club in the near future.

And if Warburton does become frustrated with the former Preston man, Stein is clearly backing O’Halloran to be the man to step in to their forward line to help them rediscover their shooting boots.
