Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers played out a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday to deny the Hoops another Scottish Premiership win.

Barry Ferguson has told the Daily Record that he would name Craig Gordon as man of the match from Celtic’s draw with Rangers on Sunday.

The Hoops dropped points for just the second time all season in the Scottish Premiership as Graeme Murty’s men came away from Parkhead with a 1-1 draw thanks to a late leveller from Clint Hill.

And while Leigh Griffiths seemed to have a good shout for a stoppage-time penalty turned down, it was the Gers who arguably enjoyed the best two chances that did not result in goals as Martyn Waghorn was twice denied by Gordon either side of half-time.

And because of that display from the Hoops stopper, Ibrox hero Ferguson has suggested that he cannot look past Gordon’s performance when suggesting who the best player was.

“Rangers had the two best chances of the game which both fell to Martyn Waghorn and he missed them both,” he told the Record.

“Although I have to say Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was the best player on the pitch as he made two top-class saves from Waghorn.

“At 0-0, Waghorn runs through and misses that chance and then Celtic score to make it 1-0. I was a wee bit worried. I did wonder how they were going to cope with it.”

Of course, sceptical Celtic fans will suggest that Ferguson’s comments may not be as complimentary as they would appear, as often, goalkeepers tend to only receive the man of the match award when the opposition team have been dominant, which Rangers were not over the course of the 90 minutes.

Both teams enjoyed excellent spells where they looked to have the upper hand, but it cannot be questioned that Gordon’s brilliant saves from Waghorn were crucial to the result as the striker was arguably the favourite to score on both occasions.
