Rangers hero Barry Ferguson is in contention for a return to Ibrox.

Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has told BBC Sport that he hasn’t heard from the club since Wednesday as he pursues a role on Pedro Caixinha’s coaching staff.
The Gers swooped to land Caixinha as their new manager earlier this month as they pounced to lure the Portuguese boss from Qatari side Al-Gharafa following Mark Warburton’s abrupt departure.
Caixinha oversaw a thumping 4-0 home win over Hamilton Academical in his first game in charge before the international break, but he still has plenty of work to do at Ibrox – both on and off the field.
One of his main tasks ahead of this weekend’s game against Motherwell is to find a new coach, as Caixinha wants to bring in a ‘local coach’ to give him detailed information about Rangers and Scottish football.
Five ex-Rangers players have been interviewed for the job; Barry Ferguson, John Brown, Peter Lovenkrands, Alex Rae and Jonatan Johansson, with one of them seemingly set to land a return to Ibrox.
The favourite for the job is Ferguson, who left his position as manager of fourth-tier side Clyde over a month ago, having enjoyed two spells with Rangers as a player.
A former Gers skipper, Ferguson has now told BBC Sport that, having met with the new Rangers boss, he thinks Caixinha will clearly stick to his principles and control everything at his disposal.

Ferguson added that his meeting with Caixinha was ‘interesting’, but he hasn’t heard anything from Rangers about the job since last Wednesday, meaning the 39-year-old is left in limbo.
“He’s obviously clearly got a way he wants to play,” said Ferguson. “He plans training out. He decides on virtually everything from training, to the warm-up into the possession games.”
“It was an interesting meeting because he’s a foreign coach with his own ideas about the way he wants to play. The meeting went fine, but I know there’s about another four or five guys been in since, so I have not heard anything since last Wednesday,” he added.
