Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers have suffered a blow in their quest to bring John Souttar to Ibrox now, according to Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 6:25pm, January 31, 2022).

Sky Sports are reporting this evening that Rangers have made a bid to sign Souttar from Heart of Midlothian on January transfer deadline day.

Rangers have already agreed a pre-contract with the defender which will see him join the defending Scottish Premiership giants in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer

However, the Gers want to bring the 25-year-old Scotland international centre-back to Ibrox now.

And, according to Sky Sports, Rangers have made an offer to Hearts.

Hearts have reportedly turned it down.

Could Rangers still sign John Souttar today?

In our view, there is still a chance that Rangers could secure the services of Souttar on January transfer deadline day.

There is still time left tonight.

However, for that to happen, we think that Rangers need to increase their bid and make an offer that would be simply too much to resist for Hearts.

Souttar is a very good defender who would enhance Rangers’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row.
