Rangers have missed out on signing St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan, with BBC Sport reporting Celtic are set to complete a deal.

The move will see Morgan loaned back to St Mirren for the rest of the season, before beginning what he hopes will be a glittering career at Celtic.

So why did Morgan, reportedly a Rangers fan, not take the chance to move to Ibrox? Well the Gers only have themselves to blame for blowing this one.

Herald Scotland report that the key behind Morgan choosing Celtic, is manager Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic's head coach Brendan Rodgers talks during a press conference in Brussels on September 26, 2017 on the eve of the Champions League group B) football match against RSC Anderlecht.

Morgan believes the Celtic is the best manager to further his career.

Unfortunately for Rangers, they have not been able to put together a counter argument of their own.

For the last two months, Rangers have operated without a manager.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Caretaker boss Graeme Murty is in charge now, but when it comes to signing players, there is no long term vision to sell, as at present, Rangers do not even have a plan.

Rangers have had since October to appoint a manager, sacking Pedro Caixinha after a poor run of results, and it was always a risk letting the situation drag out as the transfer window approached.

This has now been emphasised by their failure to land Lewis Morgan, and the board only have themselves to blame for not putting himself in a fair position to compete for his signature.
