Glasgow Rangers have announced that Jake Hastie will move to Ibrox in the summer.

Rangers are wasting little time getting their summer business underway, with the club confirming on their official website this week that they have signed Jake Hastie on a four-year deal.

Hastie is not the finished article. But the 20-year-old’s form since the turn of the year suggests that he could prove to be an inspired addition for the Gers in the coming years, especially given that he is moving at the end of his contract at Motherwell.

And further proof of Hastie’s potential is the amount of clubs that were linked with a move for the winger before he completed his switch to Rangers. The Daily Express’ report from last month named six other sides that were interested in the youngster, including Championship play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough.

With Hastie’s future now resolved, Tony Pulis will be looking elsewhere for potential summer targets. And given the latest name linked with a move to the Riverside Stadium, perhaps it may be fair to suggest that the Gers have made one of Celtic’s summer tasks slightly more challenging.

The Sun has also reported this week that Boro are interested in Hoops wide-man Scott Sinclair, with a £2 million bid potentially being prepared ahead of the window opening.

Sinclair is 10 years older than Hastie, so they meet slightly different criteria right now. But given that they play in the same position, it may not be out of the question to suggest that missing out on Hastie may have left Pulis even more determined to sign Sinclair.

And while Sinclair’s form at Parkhead has not been what it was during his first season with the Bhoys, it would be a significant blow if he was sold in the summer, and may provide a further boost to Rangers’ hopes of ending that wait for a major honour.
