Brendan Rodgers’ exit from Celtic comes as a big shock.

Rodgers was confirmed as manager earlier this evening by Leicester.

It’s a big blow to Celtic, which has left some fans furious that he could not wait until the end of the season.

Right now emotions are raw, and Rodgers is at risk of having eroded the goodwill he has built up at the club over the past three years.

How it plays out, is in the hands of Celtic’s rivals Rangers.

Rangers at present are eight points behind Celtic.

Rodgers should be confident he is leaving Celtic in a healthy position. If he stays, Celtic are well on course to win an eighth successive title.

His exit lets Rangers back in, giving Steven Gerrard’s side fresh hope.

If Celtic go on to win the league and cup, completing a treble, Rodgers’ exit will become more palatable. No harm done.

Rangers overhauling Celtic will make Rodgers’ decision look a lot worse, and change the way he is remembered by the club.
