The Glasgow Rangers legendary striker thinks the Ibrox club is “two windows in front” of where he thought they would now be.

Glasgow Rangers legend Mark Hateley has claimed that the Ibrox club is “two windows” ahead of where he thought it would be and believes Steven Gerrard will continue to move the bar up with regards to developing his squad.
The Gers finished second in the Scottish Premiership this season, nine points behind their Old Firm rivals, but were very much in the title race come the winter break and, crucially, picked up two wins over them, both at Ibrox.
Overall it proved a fruitful debut season for Gerrard at the helm of the Light Blues, and with their Glasgow rivals appearing to have some rebuilding to do in their ranks given their squad size and surplus of under-utilised players, the 2019-20 season could potentially see Rangers move even closer to their rivals – or perhaps even overtake them.
“We are in a good place on and off the field, we’ve built strong foundations and I like what Steven’s done,” Hateley told The Scotsman. “We are probably two windows in front of where I thought we’d be right now, when you consider the big changes in a short space of time.

“Steven is an ultra professional and a smart guy. He’s in a good space on the back of two Old Firm wins at Ibrox, where they played very well. They have set the level now and that’s how you develop as a team. You keep moving the bar up. In top teams, once that bar is set then you never drop below it for a long period of time. Steven did that as a player and I’m sure he’ll do it as a manager.”
Hateley was at Rangers between 1990 and 1995, scoring 115 goals in 222 games, and played a huge part in the club going on to win nine titles in a row during his time at Ibrox (official Gers website).
