The Glasgow Rangers ace and the Kilmarnock loanee both play internationally for Finland and the Ibrox midfielder gave his compatriot the lowdown about Scottish football.
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has warned Kilmarnock new-boy Niko Hamalainen about the “aggressive” Scottish Premiership, the 22-year-old told Killie TV following his loan switch.
The Queens Park Rangers left-back, who has played alongside the Ibrox star in the Finland national setup, has recently joined the Rugby Park side on loan for the entirety of the 2019-20 season.
Hamalainen also said he spoke to former Rangers ace Lee Wallace, who made close to 200 appearances for the Ibrox club this decade before joining the Loftus Road side this summer, about what it’s like playing in the Scottish top flight.
“I don’t know much about it (Scottish football),” he told Killie TV. “I spoke to Lee Wallace at QPR and I also know Glen Kamara at Rangers, and he told me that it’s quite an aggressive league, but he said I should be able to do a good job.”
Hamalainen, who was born in the United States, has been at the R’s since 2014, joining the West London club following youth stints at Florida FC and FC Dallas, and also had a loan spell at Los Angeles FC last season.
The full-back, who is embarking on his third loan spell after also featuring for Dagenham & Redbridge in 2015, could make his debut for Kilmarnock on Saturday when they face Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Kamara and Hamalainen could face off on Boxing Day this year, when Rangers host Kilmarnock at Ibrox, and again on 12 February, when the Gers visit Rugby Park.
