Rangers are interested in Michael Beale and former Ibrox ace Greg Stewart has urged the club to make their move for the Englishman.

The Gers decided to sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday.

The Dutchman endured a truly horrendous Champions League campaign this season and slipped nine points behind Celtic in the league table.

Reaching the Europa League final last season couldn’t save Van Bronckhorst and he now finds himself out of a job.

Greg Stewart urges Rangers to call Michael Beale

Rangers must now move for another new manager having only appointed Van Bronckhorst in November of last year.

Steven Gerrard’s move to Aston Villa saw him take his coaching staff with him – but he quickly lost Michael Beale.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea coach decided to leave Villa over the summer, becoming Queens Park Rangers manager.

Beale has impressed in charge of the R’s and has them challenging for the Championship playoffs despite a limited budget.

Rangers are now understood to be interested in Beale with The Scottish Sun claiming that most of the Gers board are backing a move for Beale.

That report even suggests that Beale himself is interested in making a return to Rangers having worked there alongside Gerrard.

This would still be a gamble though as Beale has limited managerial experience and would be walking into an enormous job.

Those who worked with Beale at Rangers are big fans though and Greg Stewart has backed him for the job.

Former Rangers attacker Stewart has told the Daily Record that Beale is the first man he would call to discuss the Gers job.

Stewart praised Beale’s work on and off the pitch, believing he speaks with such clarity that everybody knows their roles.

Stewart also believes that the Rangers players who haven’t yet worked with Beale would quickly love him, backing the Englishman for the main job at Ibrox.

“Mick would be the first guy I’d call,” said Stewart. “I worked with Michael during my two years at the club and he did so much on the training pitch. Off the pitch too, the way he gets his point across with such clarity is impressive. As a player, he makes sure you know your job on and off the ball.”

“It’s all about the finer detail and the knowledge you need and that makes him someone you want to listen to. When I spoke with him, I’d try to take in as much as I could because you know what he tells you will make you a better player. But he’s not just someone who’ll be your mate. He’s got that steeliness that all top bosses have and allows them to lay down the law.”

“I know for a fact he’s well respected by the boys at the club who worked with him. Believe me, the ones who haven’t would only take a week or two to start thinking the same,” he added.
