Former Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner has followed Connor Goldson’s career after working with the defender while the pair were together at the New Meadow and he’s been delighted to see the eight-goal Rangers colossus fulfil the potential he showed when first breaking through.
Goldson has played every minute of every game this season as the Gers wrapped up the title in record time and close in a on unbeaten league season for the first time in the top flight since 1898/99.
Working with Goldson before his move to Brighton, Turner admits he had “all the ingredients to get to the top” and is pleased to see him finallyget his rewards ahead of Rangers being presented with the Scottish Premiership trophy next month.
“He’s progressed ever so well going from Shrewsbury to Brighton and on to Rangers. He’s fulfilled all the potential he showed when he got in to the side as a young lad for me at Shrewsbury,” Turner told the Daily Record.
“Back then, more often than not, he’d play right back because he was learning the game and you can afford to make mistakes out there more than you can at centre back.
“It was always clear he would end up in the middle but he always had good qualities on the ball. He wasn’t just a good defender, he was comfortable and confident in possession.
“He was a smashing lad to talk to. You always feel there’s a distance between managers and players but he was always someone you could talk to because he was so keen to absorb as much as possible.
“He learned quickly.
“It’s difficult to see how high players can go but when you see someone with power and pace, who could defend and was comfortable on the ball, you always think they could have a very good career.
“He had all the ingredients to get to the top.”
Goldson is sure to be involved in Sunday’s Old Firm clash with Celtic and the defender will be aiming to make it an unbeaten record against their bitter rivals this season.
With only three games left in the campaign, Goldson’s consistency has been nothing short of remarkable and the defender is rightly a serious contender for Player of the Year.

Rangers fans will be hoping he can continute that into next season and give the Gers a massive push towards turning 55 into 56.
