Rangers icon Richard Gough has warned Ibrox boss that this season’s title success will be “difficult to repeat” with the legndary former Gers skipper expecting a “huge challenge” from Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Gerrard’s Rangers go into this afternoon’s Old Firm clash with a massive gap to second-placed Celtic having sealed the title almost two months ago.
With Celtic undergoing a drastic overhaul this summer, Gough expects the title race to be much closer next term – warning Gerrard he needs to add a “couple of better players than he’s got” currently.
“It’s difficult to repeat. I’m sure there will be a huge challenge from Celtic. I think it’ll be close next year,” Gough told the Sunday Post.
“Rangers have had an incredible season in not losing a league game up till now and, of course, the important thing was that title.
“But there must be disappointment when your main rivals get knocked out the cups – then you get knocked out, too.
“Steven must add a couple of better players than he’s got at the moment, just like Rangers always did in my period.”
This afternoon’s meeting between the sides will be the fifth this season with Rangers picking up three wins and a draw.

Avoiding defeat will leave Rangers unbeaten against their bitter rivals over the course of a full season for the first time since 1999/2000 when Dick Advocaat’s side did so.
