Rangers star Connor Goldson has hailed veteran keeper Allan McGregor as an “inspiration” after the 39-year-old was named Scottish Premiership Player of the Year following a stunning season for the Light Blues.

McGregor has kept a remarkable 16 clean sheets in the league this term and one this afternoon would see the Gers set a new Scottish clean sheet record as well as a British record for fewest goals conceded in a season.
Goldson admits it is “no wonder” McGregor has had the career he has after training every day “like his life depends on it” with Goldson crediting the presence of Jon McLaughlin with pushing McGregor on to continue to excel.
“We have two great goalkeepers because you saw Jon McLaughlin during the week and I think that pushes Greegsy even more every single day,” Goldson told the Glasgow Times.
“He trains like his life depends on it and he is a real inspiration for every single player here.
“At his age, it would be so easy to take his foot of the gas and just wait for games of football.
“But as soon as he walks onto the training pitch he is the same Greegsy you see every game day.
“That’s such a special thing as a footballer and it’s no wonder he’s had the career he’s had and is still doing it to this day.
“The way he works on a day to day basis, I see it. He is always the first person into the gym doing his programme, always one of the best trainers.

“I think he deserves it more than anyone because of the work he puts in.”
