Robby McCrorie will hope to start putting pressure on Glasgow Rangers number one Wes Foderingham at Ibrox at some point in the future.

Robby McCrorie has suggested that Jim Stewart and Matt Gilks have been major influences during his development at Rangers, the Evening Times reports.

The 19-year-old is one of a number of younger players that will be trying to impress Pedro Caixinha in the coming months as he fights to one day secure his first taste of first-team action in a competitive game.

But while McCrorie suggested that current Gers number one Wes Foderingham and understudy Jak Alnwick have been great with him, he seemed to speak just as glowingly about the pair who no longer find themselves at Ibrox.

“It is sad to see Jim go. He has been great for me personally and he has helped a lot of top class goalkeepers over the years,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“It was good to work with Matt Gilks at the start of the season. He is an experienced keeper and I learned a lot from him,” he went on to add.

“Wes and Jak are always there for me to speak to them. They have got a lot of first team experience and I feel that I can go and ask them anything to help me improve.”

Stewart was allowed to leave shortly after Caixinha’s arrival as the Portuguese looked to put his own staff in place, while Gilks departed for Championship side Wigan in the January transfer window after only a short spell with the club.

And while it seems unlikely that their departures will derail his development, he will also know that impressing the new goalkeeping coach could be extremely important, as with two years left on his contract with the Light Blues (via transfermarkt), he may need a coach to fight his corner when it comes to potentially deciding his future further down the line as the path to the first-team seems to be extremely congested.
