St. Mirren goalkeeper Craig Samson has spoken highly of Rangers custodian Allan McGregor to The Scottish Sun following the Ibrox star’s performance at the weekend.

McGregor, who joined Rangers in the summer transfer window for his second spell at Ibrox, was in action for the Gers in their 2-0 victory over St. Mirren away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

The 36-year-old Scotland international goalkeeper made a number of saves in the first half, and Samson, 34, was impressed.

Samson told The Scottish Sun: “I think Allan McGregor won it for them. In the first half I thought the saves he made were absolutely brilliant.

“He made stops at important times and that’s what every goalkeeper tries to do. The save he made from the free-kick was world class — the ball took a deflection and was going into the top corner, so he had to adjust his position and stop it.”

Important player

McGregor has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers and has been superb for the Gers so far this season.

The Scotland international is making some important saves for the Gers, both in the Scottish Premiership and in the Europa League.

The Rangers recruitment team must be praised for being smart enough to bring McGregor back to Ibrox, especially on a free transfer.

The win against St. Mirren means that Rangers are now third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 21 points from 11 matches, just five points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.
