Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has said he was “glad” of the support he received from former club Arsenal after he was racially abused during and following the Gers’ Europa League tie with Slavia Prague last season – and hopes the same support can be shown for Gunners’ star Bukayo Saka after the abuse he received in the wake of the Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy.
Kamara spent time at Arsenal before moving to Scotland with Dundee while Rangers captain James Tavernier presented Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a personalised Gers shirt signed by the players and staff at Ibrox.
The Finnish international was thankful of the backing after the shamful abuse and told how Steven Gerrard’s stars wanted to do something to show Saka they were right behind him.
“They were really supportive of me and I’m glad they were,” Kamara told Rangers TV.
“We wanted to do our shirt for Saka and hopefully we can support him and everyone can stand by him after what happened.”
Rangers star is vital to Gers’ success this season after stunning 2020/21

Kamara was an absolute standout for Rangers last season and the Finn is going to be every bit as important for the Light Blues this time around.
With Ryan Jack yet to return from injury and Nnamdi Ofoborh ruled out indefinitely, Rangers still remain a bit light in midfield.
John Lundstram’s arrival has beefed the Gers up a little but Kamara’s importance can’t be understated.
Despite rumours over his Ibrox future, keeping him a Rangers player for this season could be the difference in the Gers retaining their title and not.
