Rangers may yet be able to keep James Tavernier at Ibrox.
According to RMC Sport, Newcastle United have opened talks to sign Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe this summer.
The Magpies made their first summer signing earlier today with a deal for Hoffenheim striker Joelinton, but new boss Steve Bruce needs more.
A right back appears to be on Bruce’s radar, and it’s now claimed that Newcastle have opened talks with Monaco about a deal for Sidibe.
The 26-year-old can leave Monaco this summer, just a year after winning the World Cup with France, and Newcastle are making their move to sign the Frenchman.
Sidibe would be a solid addition to the Newcastle back line, and the talks also serve as a massive boost for Rangers.
The Daily Mail reported just days ago that Bruce wanted to re-sign ex-Newcastle right back James Tavernier from the Gers after 17 goals and 20 assists last season.
There’s no way Newcastle would be signing both Tavernier and Sidibe, especially with DeAndre Yedlin and Javi Manquillo already at the club.
By opening talks for Sidibe, it seems that Newcastle are quickly moving on from Tavernier, leaving all at Ibrox to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
