Giovanni van Bronckhorst feels his Rangers talks went well and was actually expecting a call from the club on Monday as the Ibrox manager hunt continues.
That’s according to The Times, who claim that Dutch sources indicate that Van Bronckhorst was ‘happy’ with the talks held with Rangers over the weekend.
Van Bronckhorst was therefore hoping to hear from Rangers on Monday with regards to taking the job.
It’s unclear whether that actually happened or not, but the report suggests Van Bronckhorst could be named as Rangers boss today.
Rangers claim to be looking at other mystery candidates, but it seems that Van Bronckhorst is the hot favourite.
Van Bronckhorst fits the bill for Rangers
Rangers have had to move quickly for a new manager having been dealt the unexpected blow of Steven Gerrard leaving for Aston Villa.
As far as a swift appointment goes, Van Bronckhorst seems to be a pretty ideal candidate for the job.
Firstly, the Dutchman has strong ties to Rangers having spent three years at Ibrox as a player.
Then you factor in his record as a coach. The 2017 Eredivisie title win with Feyenoord was truly incredible, taking down Ajax and PSV Eindhoven on a much smaller budget.
Van Bronckhorst also won two domestic cups with Feyenoord whilst winning more than 60% of his games in charge.
Van Bronckhorst just ticks the boxes for Rangers and has to be the top choice for the job to replace Gerrard.
