Rangers could appoint Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new manager – and Arthur Numan could end up following him to Ibrox.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that Van Bronckhorst is the hot favourite to become Rangers boss this week.

Van Bronckhorst held talks with Rangers over the weekend, and he seems to be the preferred candidate to replace Steven Gerrard.

Given that Gerrard took his coaching staff to Aston Villa, Rangers need to make a number of other additions around Van Bronckhorst – or whoever becomes their next manager.

This latest report claims that Van Bronckhorst is close to Numan, who is now chief scout at AZ Alkmaar.

Rangers have a director of football in Ross Wilson, but Numan could now return to Rangers in a scouting role alongside Van Bronckhorst.

Numan, 51, joined Rangers from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, spending five years at Ibrox.

Numan won three league titles and seven domestic cups during his time at Rangers before retiring in 2003.

The Dutchman recorded 45 caps for his country and has now turned to scouting, working with AZ after a stint at Aston Villa.

Numan could bring great knowledge of the Dutch market to Rangers, whilst giving Van Bronckhorst somebody he knows well having played together at Ibrox.
