Rangers captain James Tavernier presented Arsenal counterpart Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a personalised shirt signed by players and staff to show their support for Bukayo Saka following the shameful abuse he received – and fans of both the Gers and Gunners have applauded the gesture by the Light Blues.

Tavernier handed over the signed number seven shirt before the game, which saw the sides draw 2-2, as the Gers marked their 150th anniversary.

Goals from Leon Balogun and Nuno Tavares in the first half saw the sides go in 1-1 at the break before Cedric Itten and Eddie Nketiah added their names to the scoresheet.

Around 2000 Rangers fans were in attendance at Ibrox for the friendly as Gerrard’s side were given a good workout ahead of the new season getting underway.

After Rangers star Glen Kamara was publicly backed by his old side when he was racially abused during the Europa League clash with Slavia Prague, the Gers reciprocated in the wake of the sickening abuse directed towards Saka following England’s Euro 2020 defeat.

Fans were full of praise for the gesture as they took to Twitter before and after the Ibrox clash.

Here are some of the comments from fans of Rangers and Arsenal after the Gers’ presented the shirt to Saka:
