Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has opened up on his planning for next season and admits it “never stops” as he looks to “[fix] the roof when the sun is shining.”

The Light Blues have already signed Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala ahead of the new season with Scott Wright and Jack Simpson originally signing on pre-contracts before making the move to Ibrox in the winter transfer window.

Gerrard confirmed recruitment meetings have been taking place “for some time” ahead of his side’s title defence as he insisted there will be more new faces to arrive added to his Rangers squad later in the summer.

“It never stops,” Gerrard said, as quoted by the Scotsman. “Recruitment meetings have been going on now for some time.

“We’ve already put pieces in place like Jack Simpson and Scott Wright. We’ve managed to get them in early so they’re ready for pre-season.

“We’ve got Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala coming in to join us, so we’re well on our way in terms of trying to strengthen from a position of strength.

“For me, it’s always about fixing the roof when the sun is shining rather than waiting for problems. There will be more still to be added and, come the end of June, when we get back together again, we’ll be full of energy and ready to go again.”

With interest in a number of his current squad, it will be interesting to see if any of the players who helped Rangers lift 55 are sold to finance the addition of new faces this summer.

The Rangers hierarchy have made no secret of the need for the club to do better in terms of player trading and it simply can’t sustain heavy spending every year without recouping some value for players.

The likely value of some of Gerrard’s star should, however, give the Rangers sboss plenty of breathing room if he does move one or two on with the likes of Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi, Alfredo Morelos or Connor Goldson likely to raise a club record sum.
