Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that it is inevitable clubs are interested in signing his players – and confessed he might be powerless to stop them taking his stars if the “right number lands” with the Ibrox board.

The likes of Alfredo Morelos, Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Borna Barisic are among the Rangers stars linked with moves away from Ibrox but Gerrard “selfishly” wants to keep them on Glasgow’s south side.

With the opening of the transfer window a little over a month away, Gerrard is acutely aware of the club’s position but is hopeful he can keep his side together for their title defence next season.

“At a club like this, I don’t think it is a secret to say we will get attention for our own players,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.

“From a selfish point of view I don’t want any of my good players to go but the reality is if the right number lands then that decision might be taken out of my hands. I might not like it at the time but it’s where we are as a club.”

While there will definitely be exits from Ibrox this summer, if Rangers lose several key players then they face an enourmous task to rebuild.

Losing the likes of Morelos, Kamara or Barisic would leave a massive gap in the starting XI and the Rangers recruitment team would really have their work cut out trying to replace them without costing the earth.

One big sale could be enough for Gerrard’s side to balance to books and give them some room to add new faces so it will be an interesting few months for the Ibrox side.
