Rangers seemingly won’t be bringing Gennaro Gattuso back to Ibrox as their new manager – but there are mixed noises about the reasoning.
The Gers are seeking a new manager after seeing Steven Gerrard leave the club for a move to Aston Villa.
Rangers now need to find a replacement, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst a popular name in the mix.
The Dutchman is a former Rangers player and could make an emotional return to Ibrox, but the same can’t be said for Gattuso.
Gattuso joined Rangers as a player in 1997, spending just over a year at Ibrox before returning to Italy.
Now 43, Gattuso has managed Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, AC Milan and Napoli having won the World Cup and Champions League in his playing days.
Out of work at the moment, Gattuso has been an option for Rangers but won’t be returning to Glasgow.
Mixed signals over Gattuso and Rangers
This is where things get interesting.
The Glasgow Times claim that Rangers have cooled their interest in Gattuso and won’t offer him an Ibrox return.

However, the Daily Record claim that it’s the other way around.
They state that Gattuso’s camp have told Rangers that the timing isn’t right for him to head to Ibrox.
Maybe both are true and that the initial interest has just faded from both sides, but it all means that Gattuso won’t head back to Rangers.
Everything points towards Van Bronckhorst heading to Rangers right now, with Gattuso still waiting for his return to football.
