Glasgow Rangers assistant manager McAllister spoke of Ibrox top scorer Morelos ahead of the Scottish Premiership Old Firm derby this weekend.
Glasgow Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has admitted that Ibrox top scorer Alfredo Morelos has found it frustrating to be on the sidelines following his fifth red card of the season.
The Colombia international, who has 29 goals this season, collected his fifth red card of the season following an incident with Scott Brown in Rangers’ 2-1 defeat by Celtic at Parkhead in March.
Morelos has been sent off five times this season, albeit one red card was rescinded, and his latest dismissal saw him banned for four games, making his return off the bench in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Hibernian.
“He has worked hard but he has been frustrated,” McAllister is quoted by the Daily Record as saying. “He is very rarely injured, touch wood, he is very robust, so when he is on the sidelines he is just frustrated that he is not on the pitch.”
With Rangers hosting Celtic at Ibrox this weekend, McAllister and Steven Gerrard will have to mull over whether to start Morelos – who has not scored in eight appearances against the Hoops – or Jermain Defoe, who netted twice during his suspension plus the winner against Hibs.
Morelos received an award when he collected the PFA Scotland Goal of the Season prize for his composed finish in a 4-2 win against Aberdeen at Pittodrie back in February.
There have been three Old Firm matches so far this season, with Rangers winning one – the Ibrox fixture – and Celtic winning the other two.
