Francesco Farioli is interested in the Rangers job
The Daily Record report that Italian coach Francesco Farioli is interested in becoming the new Rangers boss.
Farioli is allegedly one of a number of coaches who would like to hold talks with Rangers about the Ibrox post.
That may not be a familiar name to many Rangers fans, so allow us to profile the Alanyaspor manager.
Farioli, 33, has spent most of his coaching career working on the goalkeeping side of the game.
Farioli was a goalkeeping coach for Rosignano Sei Rose, Margine Coperta, Lucchese, Qatar Under-17’s, Benevento and Sassuolo.
In amongst that spell, Farioli also worked as an assistant manager for Fortis Juventus and the famous Aspire Academy in Qatar.
Farioli worked closely with Roberto De Zerbi, now of Brighton and Hove Albion, in Italy before heading to Turkey as Alanyaspor assistant.
Fatih Karagümrük saw enough to appoint Farioli as their manager in 2021 but he lasted just 27 games; winning 11, drawing eight and losing eight.
Farioli didn’t have to wait long for another chance as Alanyaspor appointed him just two weeks after his Fatih Karagümrük spell.
17 wins in 38 games is a decent record and and Alanyaspor currently sit ninth in the Turkish Super Lig table.
A very young manager, Farioli has earned praise for his style of play in Turkey with an exciting brand offered up by the Italian.
Farioli would be a left-field choice for Rangers and may not the experience or gravitas that some would expect.
Yet if Rangers want a progressive manager for the future, Farioli could emerge as an outside contender.
