Rangers forward Martyn Waghorn has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he wants to stay at the Gers.

The forward has been at Rangers since 2015 and has a contract with the Ibrox outfit until the summer of 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The 27-year-old forward is one of the best players at the Scottish Premiership club and has been linked with moves away from Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported last month (21/03, p75) that Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Sunderland are interested in signing Waghorn (click here to read more).

The former Sunderland forward has claimed that he loves playing for Rangers and does not want to leave Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Waghorn, though, has suggested that there has been no progress in discussions over a new contract.

“Nothing at the minute,” Waghorn told The Glasgow Evening Times regarding talks over an extension. “I am just focusing on playing and staying in the team and that is all I can do at the minute.

“I have still got 15 months left on it. There is no rush. I am more than happy here.

“I have enjoyed playing and having a run in the team. So hopefully it is something that can get addressed.

“I would love to stay. I love this place. I am enjoying challenging for trophies.

“Listen, I have never been so happy at a club. If something comes about, great, if not I am more than happy playing for this club at the minute.”

This is not the first time that Waghorn has openly declared his desire to remain at Rangers. The striker made similar comments to The Daily Record in March and earlier this month.

It seems that the Englishman wants to remain at Rangers, which suggests that it would be tough for Leeds, Sunderland and Forest to prise him away from Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
