Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are currently five points behind the leaders in the Scottish Premiership table.
The Hoops strolled to the title last season and went through the entire campaign unbeaten in domestic football – and Brendan Rodgers’ men have maintained that unbeaten run at the start of this campaign.
There has been the slightest shift in momentum in recent weeks, with Rangers moving up to second in the table having picked up three wins in a row, while Celtic – who still have a game in hand – have won just one of their last three, drawing the other two. And Windass suggested that the title race may not be over when he was asked if the Gers could still catch the Bhoys.
“Who knows? They had an unbelievable season last year and they’ve obviously started this season really well, they’re six or seven points in front of us or whatever it is so they’ve obviously started this season brilliantly,” he told Rangers’ official YouTube channel, when asked if Celtic could be caught.
“Hopefully if they have a few more slip-ups and we carry on the way we are then you never know.”
It would certainly require a hugely surprising run of results for Rangers to be in the mix for the title this campaign, especially as Celtic now have no other focus until the winter break than the league.
But Graeme Murty and the next permanent Rangers manager will surely be telling the players that if they can continue to get the wins under their belt and manage to close that gap even further, they will be putting Celtic under a level of pressure that they have arguably not had to cope with since Ronny Deila was in charge.
Rangers travel to Hibernian on Wednesday while Celtic will be looking to bounce back from their draw with Neil Lennon’s men at the weekend as they face Hamilton.
