How many points has Kenny Miller’s predatory instinct earned Rangers over the years? Martyn Waghorn was certainly impressed despite failing to find the net.

Martyn Waghorn has paid tribute to centurion Kenny Miller on Twitter but was less complimentary about his own performance in Rangers’ 1-0 win away at Inverness on Friday night.

Mark Warburton’s side rose to third in the Scottish Premiership after snapping up three vital points at the Caledonian Stadium, with veteran forward Miller stealing the headlines after netting his 100th goal for the Scottish giants with a neat volley from a Lee Wallace cross midway through the first half.

The triumph brought an end to Inverness five-game winning run and lifted Rangers to within touching distance of league leaders Celtic, although Brendan Rodgers’ side have two games in hand.

Former Sunderland forward Waghorn was denied by an inspired save from the hosts goalkeeper, Owain Fon Williams, but believes he only has himself to blame for failing to double his tally of goals in the Scottish top flight this season.

Thankfully, however, the evergreen Miller remains typically clinical at the age of 36, his third strike in seven league games and his first since late August keeping Rangers in the hunt for a European place in their first season back in the top flight.

The Gers’ attentions will now turn to the second Old Firm derby of the season as they meet arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final next Sunday.
