Glasgow Rangers had Worrall on loan at Ibrox last season from the City Ground but his time playing under Steven Gerrard saw a mixed reaction from the Bears.

Nottingham Forest's Joe Worrall

Joe Worrall is back at Nottingham Forest following his loan stint at Glasgow Rangers but an error early on in the Championship club’s first pre-season friendly of the year has prompted some criticism from Ibrox and City Ground fans alike.

The 22-year-old was sent on loan to Rangers by former Reds boss Aitor Karanka but his form at the Ibrox club was patchy, following up impressive displays with ones that were less so, switching off at the back and getting caught out on occasion.

Worrall, who made 32 appearances for Gers during his stint at Ibrox, was named in the starting XI in the friendly against non-league Alfreton Town by Under-23 boss Jimmy Gilligan and assistant Chris Cohen, who took charge of the game as new head coach Sabri Lamouchi watched in the stands.

The game, played in sweltering conditions at the Impact Arena, saw the hosts take the lead as Dec Bacon capitalised on a lapse in concentration by Worrall, who gave the ball away, to claim control and slot past Costel Pantilimon.

Forest did go to win 2-1 as Brennan Johnson and Karim Ansarifard helped the visitors come from behind but some fans of both the Trickies and the Gers were nonetheless not impressed with the defender’s mistake:

Forest will now be flying out to Spain for their training camp, with their next friendly taking place on 2 July against Dundee in Murcia.
