Manchester United and AC Milan are running the rule over Umar Sadiq, according to Telegraf. And Rangers fans might have to read that sentence over and over again before it starts to sink in.

Because it’s fair to say a former Roma starlet didn’t exactly set the world alight during the most forgettable of loan spells at Ibrox during the 2018/19 season.

In fact, Sadiq’s most memorable act in that iconic blue shirt was a rather desperate dive against Aberdeen which earned him a booking – not to mention the ire of all at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard is never one to hold back in his rather forthright opinions and, when asked what Sadiq needed to improve after a slow start to life in Glasgow, the Gers boss pulled no punches.

“Everything,” he replied bluntly.

It was a surprise to absolutely no one, then, when the rangy Nigerian was farmed back to Roma just three months later, his season-long loan spell coming to an end as early as December.

But while Gerrard hasn’t made many mistakes since stepping into the Ibrox dugout, the prospect of Sadiq banging in the goals at Old Trafford or the San Siro could leave him a little red in the face.

The 23-year-old has been nothing short of sensational since moving to Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade, plundering 17 goals and a further 16 assists this season alone.

And, according to reports in Eastern Europe, Manchester United, AC Milan and more have now shown an interest in signing Sadiq after Partizan beat bitter rivals Red Star in the Serbian Cup on Wednesday night.

Gerrard said Sadiq needed to improve ‘everything’. To his credit, he has followed his old mentor’s advice to the letter.
