Ibrox flop Pena saw his loan with former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha cut short.
Mexican outfit Club Nexaca have confirmed on their official Twitter account that Rangers flop Carlos Pena has joined the top-tier side on loan, after being let go by Pedro Caixinha.
The 28-year-old had joined former Rangers boss’ Caixinha’s side on an 18-month loan from the Gers in the January transfer window, but only a few months down the line he found the temporary move cut short.
That is because Caixinha lost patience with the 19-time Mexico international, whose excessive drinking has seen him enter alcohol rehabilitation. He was even caught urinating in a fountain during his loan spell.
Now, Caixinha has cut the loan with Azul short, and Pena has instead moved to Azul’s domestic rivals Necaxa. It remains to be seen whether the loan move includes a permanent deal. ESPN journalist Ivan Canada confirmed the move was a six-month loan, at least.
Canada’s Tweet is translated as “Carlos Peña, officially new player of the Necaxa, at least for the next six months. In January, Rangers is waiting for you back.”
During his time at Azul, Pena managed just seven appearances for Caixinha’s side with injury and a lack of discipline seeing the former Ibrox boss drop him from the side.
Rangers fans have reacted to the news that the club have struck a deal with Necaxa for Pena, with the majority of fans shocked that the club managed to offload the midfielder despite his recent problems.
