Rangers want Fletcher Boyd but Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin is fighting to keep both him and Celtic target Lewis Pirie with talks ongoing.

The Glasgow Times note that there have been murmurings surrounding 14-year-old Aberdeen talent Boyd and an alleged snubbing fo Rangers.

As for 15-year-old Pirie, the Daily Record reported earlier this month that Celtic are seeking talks to sign the striker.

However, Aberdeen boss Goodwin has indicated that is ‘not aware’ of Pirie or Boyd being in talks with other clubs such as Celtic and Rangers.

Goodwin praised the Aberdeen academy for their superb work of late and believes big teams looking at their talents is only natural.

Goodwin seemingly has hope of keeping Pirie and Boyd though and even claims that Aberdeen are in talks to keep hold of both players for a while yet.

“Due to how well the academy has been doing, they have been to some major tournaments in Europe,” said Goodwin. “They have gone quite far in a number of them and won a couple as well. Some of the big teams have obviously taken notice of a few of the kids within the ranks.”

“We are talking to all of the ones we want to keep and hopefully we will have news on two or three of them in the coming weeks. The two you have mentioned I am not aware of them speaking to other clubs. But I do know that we are in talks with them,” he added.

Rangers and Celtic continue to try and raid Scottish clubs

It happens in almost every country at this point but Rangers and Celtic are understandably trying to snap up top young talent from their Scottish rivals.

The Gers have already snapped up Lancelot Pollard and Bailey Rice from Aberdeen and Motherwell respectively.

Rangers are also chasing Hearts talent James Wilson in the hope of adding another talented prospect to their ranks.

New boss Michael Beale has publicly called for Rangers to sign more Scottish players and that could come at youth and development levels.

Celtic wanted to sign Rice over the summer but missed out and are now seemingly ramping up their efforts.

The Daily Record claim that Celtic want to sign Pirie, Wilson, Motherwell’s Jonjo Webb, Hamilton’s Joshua McDonald and Partick Thistle’s Hayden Borland.

That’s a real push to land top young talent and Pirie would be a great start given the potential he has shown in the Aberdeen ranks.

Aberdeen and other Scottish clubs will now be on red alert with Rangers and Celtic seemingly pulling out all the stops.
