Rangers’ five-point plan for the January transfer window, featuring Davis and Morelos

Rangers will be looking to bring new faces to Ibrox this month.

Rangers head into the January transfer window sitting joint-top of the Scottish Premiership having beaten Celtic 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Gers are now in a real race for the title, and Steven Gerrard may hope for a couple o additions to aid the chase for top spot.

With that in mind, here is a five-point plan for Rangers this month…

1. Reject all bids for Alfredo Morelos

This one almost goes without saying, but it’s priority number one for Rangers. Star striker Morelos has been Rangers’ talisman this season, and whilst clubs in England and abroad will be looking to lure the Colombian away from Ibrox – just as they tried last January – Rangers must keep him to stand a legitimate chance at the title.

2. Secure Steven Davis deal

A deal for Southampton midfielder Davis already appears to be close, but Rangers must make sure there are no late mishaps. The Northern Ireland captain would be a key signing in midfield for Rangers, offering more control in the middle of the park, as even at his age, he would really aid a problem area of the pitch for Rangers.

3. Add another midfielder

Even if Davis does arrive, Rangers shouldn’t stop there in midfield. A more dynamic, goalscoring midfielder should also be added. A deal for Kieran Dowell won’t be happening, but a player of that ilk would really revolutionise the Rangers midfield for the second half of the season. After all, Gerrard of all people knows how important goals from midfield are.

4. Sign a third striker

Umar Sadiq’s torrid loan spell at Ibrox has come to an abrupt end, and Rangers’ focus must now be on finding another striker. Morelos and Kyle Lafferty are just fine, but adding a third option would be ideal, enabling youngster Ryan Hardie to stay out on loan with Livingston.

5. Offload Caixinha flop

Rangers must offload some players though, and Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena must be moved on. Pena is a drain on the Rangers wage bill now he has returned from a loan spell at Necaxa, and having been a flop since Pedro Caixinha signed him, it’s time Rangers cut ties with him.
