Rangers should attempt to bring Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to Ibrox once again.
If there is a club which knows about a financial disaster then look no further than Glasgow Rangers.
Liquidation in 2012 left Rangers needing to restart from scratch, and fans at Ibrox are still waiting to recapture the success of old.
So while they will sympathise with Aston Villa’s ongoing problems, Rangers can turn into one of the vultures and try to raid the English side for one of their top talents.
Villa fought off interest to sign the talented striker then. Now they do not have quite the same pull or power.
Hepburn-Murphy over the last two seasons has not kicked on as he would have liked, with his path blocked by expensive signings Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan.
Still just 19, Hepburn-Murphy has a prolific record for Villa’s under-23 side, scoring 20 goals in 35 appearances.
Of these goals, seven came in his last eight this season.
Hepburn-Murphy could benefit if Villa cash in on their more saleable assets, but at present it looks like every player has their price.
This is a chance for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers to show that they are making progress, and move to bring the England under-20 striker to Ibrox.
Rangers would not have expected to get a second opportunity, so it is one they should seize and their high profile new manager could even prove to be the difference maker in convincing the striker to make the leap.
