Well, it looks like Rangers fans may not see Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s appointment this week.

The Ibrox club are reportedly set to hire the Dutchman as Steven Gerrard’s successor.

According to The Athletic, Rangers held further talks with Van Bronckhorst on Tuesday, after interviewing him in London on Saturday afternoon.

It seems only a matter of time before the Gers hire their former player.

But The Daily Record have reported that it’s unlikely to be this week.

There is a memorial planned for legendary Rangers manager Walter Smith in Glasgow on Friday.

And The Record‘s Keith Jackson has written that the light Blues’ hierarchy ‘feel it would be inappropriate’ for a managerial appointment to clash with such a sad event.

Jackson adds that Van Bronckhorst may be in attendance to watch the Scottish Premiership champions take on Hibernian in Sunday’s League Cup semi final, but that he’s unlikely to have been confirmed as manager by then.

ASAP

Rangers were quick to lose Gerrard – who left to join Aston Villa – and they also have to be speedy to replace him.

Gerrard left behind a team that sat top of the Premiership and four points above Celtic.

But unless Van Bronckhorst hits the ground running, which could be unlikely, then the Hoops may smell blood over the coming weeks.

Based on the Jackson report, Monday is the best that the Ibrox faithful can hope for.
