Kris Boyd has told Sky Sports News on Monday evening that Aaron Ramsey joining Rangers over Premier League clubs simply shows how big the Glasgow club are. Ramsey has joined on loan until the end of the season.
Ramsey, 31, completed one of the shock moves of deadline day on Monday – completing a six-month loan spell to Rangers from Juventus. He had only played five times for Juventus so far, during the 2021-22 campaign.
The Gers needed a midfielder, but not many could have predicted the arrival of the ex-Arsenal star. It is a huge coup for the Gers, who remain first in the Scottish Premiership table. He has a contract until 2023.
Speaking on Ramsey’s move to his old club Rangers, Boyd spoke of how the signing is not only good for the Gers – but the entirety of Scotland. He compared Ramsey to the signing of Paul Gascoigne.
“It shows Rangers FC are one of the biggest in the UK. He has obviously turned down Premier League clubs to go to Rangers. He speaks about playing in 50,000 fans, Europe, chance to win trophies,” Boyd said.
“Obviously not motivated by money, or he wouldn’t be anywhere near Rangers. It’s fantastic, not only for Rangers, but for Scotland. Paul Gascoigne was the last big player to join Rangers. Aaron Ramsey is exactly that.”
Boyd on Ramsey: Rangers star will increase Scottish football audience
Ramsey is simply, a superb signing. The midfielder is probably the best player in Scottish football, if he can reproduce half the form he is capable of. He significantly strengthens his new side’s pursuit of the title.
Rangers also remain in Europe and Ramsey gives the Gers a chance of qualifying for the next knockout stage. Boyd is right, Ramsey’s name will introduce new fans to Scottish football – with the Old Firm on Wednesday.
