Rangers have a free weekend with no fixture facing them, giving Steven Gerrard time to plan for the final five games of the season after the Scottish Premiership split.

The Gers have second place all but secured and won’t be catching Celtic, meaning the final weeks of the season may be something of a drag, but Gerrard won’t want to let standards slip.

He may want to give playing time to some fringe players like Matt Polster, Eros Grezda and Kyle Lafferty ahead of pre-season, but the subject of Lee Wallace has come up this week.

The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer, and having made just two appearances for Rangers this season, he’s all set to leave Ibrox in a matter of weeks.

Yet that doesn’t really tell the full story with Wallace. He joined Rangers from Hearts back in 2011, and could have left a year later when Rangers were liquidated, much like Lafferty, Allan McGregor, Steven Naismith and Steven Davis did.

Instead, Wallace stayed loyal to Rangers. He stuck with the club in the fourth tier, captaining them up through the leagues before returning to the top flight in 2016.

He has almost been frozen out over the last year though due to an internal matter, and having also had a major injury last season, the veteran has struggled to get his place in the Rangers side back.

Now though, a host of Rangers fans are taking to Twitter to demand that Wallace is given a game at Ibrox before the end of the season in order for fans to show their appreciation to the left back, or at least be given time on the final day away at Kilmarnock to say goodbye, feeling he’s 100% deserving of a spot in the team again before the end of the campaign.
