Rangers are lacking in central midfield options under Ibrox interim boss Graeme Murty.
Rangers are down to their bare bones once again in central midfield as Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans join Jordan Rossiter on the sidelines for Saturday’s clash against St. Johnstone – and fans have urged the club to recall Andy Halliday.
Former Aberdeen ace Jack is serving the third match of a three-match ban after being sent off for a lunge on Aberdeen striker Stevie May earlier this month, while Scotland international Dorrans has undergone surgery on his ankle.
With resources limited at Ibrox, manager Graeme Murty is unlikely to bring anyone new to Ibrox in January, at least not on a permanent basis as the likes of Jamie Barjonas, Ross McCrorie and Josh Windass continue to combine.
Currently on loan in Azerbaijan with FK Gabala, 26-year-old Andy Halliday has been struggling for first-team game time. He has made just seven appearances, and been left on the substitutes bench for five of Gabala’s last six matches.
Rangers fans are desperate to see the former Middlesbrough midfielder brought back to Ibrox early from his loan in order to give the Light Blues an extra option in the middle of the park.
One fan even claimed Halliday would be a better option than 18-year-old ace Barjonas, claiming he is “not good enough to start but a decent squad player to have”.
