Those of a Rangers persuasion are urging their side not to sign Graeme Shinnie after the rumoured Ibrox target’s performance for Scotland on Thursday.

Rangers have been linked with a pre-contract move for Shinnie (Express), who started at left-back in Kazakhstan after injuries to Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney.

But the 27-year-old won’t have fond memories of his 90 minutes in Nursultan, with Scotland on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier.

And Shinnie’s performance – his role in Kazakhstan’s second goal, particularly – is coming under scrutiny, with the following Rangers fans having seen enough…

Despite having managed Rangers for five years earlier in his career, Alex McLeish failed to call up a single Gers player for Scotland’s March fixtures.

In his defence, however, the two main candidates for selection have either struggled with injuries of late (Ryan Jack) or retired on the eve of McLeish’s squad announcement (Allan McGregor).
